Big Promises at the State of the Union Address

President Barrack Obama gave his State of the Union address on January 27th. He started his speech comparing today’s times to the Civil War and the civil rights movement.

Throughout his speech the president made promises for more jobs, a better economy, and renewable resources throughout the country.

The unemployment rate is currently around 10%. Obama said in his speech, “Jobs must be our number one focus in 2010, and that is why I am calling for a new jobs bill tonight.”

He later spoke of the $30 billion that banks returned after the bailout, would be used to fund loans to small businesses.

President Obama told his crowd that he plans to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan.

Despite his approval ratings dropping below 50%, Obama has been granted a warm and respectful crowd, receiving many standing ovations from, democrats, republicans and and any other neutral party.

In his opening statements he said, “I do not accept second place for the United States of America.” Hopefully his speeking skill combined with his new plan can help improve our country’s economy and overall state of being.
