The film will be “21,” 2008’s fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained in card counting and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions. Concessions will be available, so bring your blankets and lawn chairs, and head down to our own private outdoor movie theatre here at RV.

A Cheaper Prom

April 15th, 2009 RV Xpress Staff No comments

Let’s do some math: 2 tickets at $35 each + 2 dinners at about $40 per person + $70 per person for a limo rental + the $20 you spent on flowers to ask her + $150 for your tux rental + $30 for the corsage = your bank account having the life sucked out of it, and dying a slow painful death, especially in this economy. As Prom season approaches, both guys and girls alike are feeling the effects of the dance on their wallets. For some people, the traditional “Expensive Clothes + Expensive Limo + Expensive Dinner + Dance” formula is not even feasible in these recent strained economic times. Mustangs are being forced to find alternatives to the norm in order to stay under budget. Read more…

The Birds and the Bees of Prom: How Prom is born

Planning for the upcoming “Silver Screen Serenade” takes a lot more effort than most students imagine- here’s a behind the scenes look from Junior Student Government Representative Connor Randall.

Step One: Choose A Venue
Last October, we had a big decision to make. Pick a prom location for next April. There was a long list of possible candidates, and a short list of realistic ones. We first walked into the ballroom at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. We were impressed- and a little overwhelmed with all the options and possibilities. The tour guide showed us hundreds of photos from past proms, including everything from the coat check station to an optional outdoor fireworks show. Yeah….. a little over the top, but still a very noteworthy location. One of the next venues was Invesco. We were toured around once again, and studied the entrances, ballroom, refreshment areas, field and even the parking lot, (We’re pretty thorough). We were also told that the Invesco staff would include catering, security and cleanup. That was a big plus. After we had seen and heard from various locations, we ended up with two strong candidates: The Denver Center for Performing Arts and Invesco Field at Mile High. Read more…
