Budget Cuts on the Table Again; will RVHS be affected?

It’s no secret that the Jefferson County Public School District is in a budget crisis. Two weeks ago, the Board of Education voted to close down Russell Elementary School in Arvada and last year the Board made cuts that included a decrease in custodial and facilities services staffing, elimination of staffing at the district’s costume room (for plays and the like) and decreased funding for the Warren Tech Galleria.

Now that it’s budget season once again, the district must identify those services that may no longer be necessary. Here are the cuts that affect RVHS most directly.

    Meeting Mr. Butler

Get To Know the Newest Ralston Valley English Teacher

By Connor Randall – staff writer

First of all, may I start off by saying that writing an article about an English teacher adds some pressure onto me. I feel as though my writing is being critiqued an extra amount, but I’ll do my best despite the consequences.

This 2009-2010 School year, we welcome a new edition to the superb teaching staff here at RV.  *Cue Drum Roll……..*

Mr. David Butler! Who instructs two freshmen classes and three sophomore classes (a good mix, he says) is, thus far, loving his time here.  “So far at RV my experience has been great; the students are a blast to have in class, and the faculty is helpful, friendly, and inviting.”

A Colorado native, he went middle school in Littleton, then to Arvada High School, and finally Drake University in Iowa.  Here’s the twist: initially, our very own Mr. Butler went to school to be a TV producer.  And he succeeded, becoming a producer on HD Net, a channel owned by Mavericks CEO Mark Cuban that broadcasts everything from sporting events to concerts, and everything else in-between.  However, nowadays, Mr. Butler is very proud of being a part of the (literally) excellent mustang staff we’re so lucky to have here at RV.

When he’s not producing TV shows or sharing his knowledge (in, may I say, a fun and effective way) with his students, Mr. Butler can be found at the golf course, in the movie theatre, and occasionally kicking some butt at the racquetball course (*cough, cough Mr. Fleishman, cough*) He also added, like any good English teacher would, that he likes to sit down with a good book every now and then.  Welcome aboard, Mr. Butler! We’re very glad to have you with us.

Homecoming Theme 09: The Votes Are In

Thursday, for the first time ever, Student Government had students vote on what should be the theme for this year’s homecoming week. Students were given three choices, “A Night at Hogwarts,” “Las Vegas: Lucky # 10,” and “Pirates: The ForgotTEN Island.” (Emphasis on the ten, it being Ralston Valley’s 10th year.) While I cannot disclose which one was chosen (my apologies. There’s still a small element of surprise!)  I will say that the Student Body made sure that their voice was heard.  Thanks for your votes, everyone! It’s gonna be a good one.
