New Bridge Going Across 6th Avenue
A bridge on the south side of 6thavenue has been in the process of being built for quite some time, and as you drive by you may wonder where is that going? How I it going to get there? Well, from this Friday night to Monday morning the highway will be closed from Kipling Av. to Simms/Union exits. The large 600-ton bridge will stretch across the 286-footspan of the highway on long transporters, and is expected to take 30 hours to complete the roll. The bridge is 65-feet tall, and uses 55,000 bolts to keep i together. On the north side of 6th, the bridge will hopefully connect with a smaller span on the other side without a hitch.
RTD has now set up a viewing area on the north Sixth Av. frontage road, to watch the traveling bridge over the weekend, with bleachers and a great view of the big move. So go check out this slow, but interesting travel of one big bridge.
