RV Hockey Gets 2nd in State, Loses in Overtime

A nail-biter hockey game went down at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, where Ralston Valley went up against Colorado Springs team Lewis Palmer for the state hockey title. The game was going well for Ralston Valley, who was leading 2-1 going into the final minute of the 3rd period, until Lewis Palmer scored, sending the championship game into overtime. After a few rough minutes of overtime play, Lewis Palmer scored, winning the title. The Mustangs really played well today, with four times as many shots on goal and a strong defense, but in the end, a quick shot won it for Lewis Palmer. Congrats Mustangs on a great season!

    Bank Robberies Become Holiday Trend

Unfortunately, bank robberies have become a trend this Holiday Season.  A local “Bank of the West” at Ralston Road and Carr Street here in Arvada was robbed this afternoon around 1:30 PM.  The FBI, who is seeing it as possibly related to NINE other local robberies this week, is investigating. Three of the robberies occurred Monday, three on Tuesday, and three on Wednesday.  Investigators are not sure if all are connected, but there is some speculation.

The FBI reported that the man who robbed the “Bank of the West” Wednesday was described as a white man in his 30’s-40’s, about 5’7”with a thin build.  He was wearing a red construction hat, a black hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants and shoes.  The man walked into the bank, demanded money from the teller, she gave the threatening man the cash, and he left on foot.

If you have any information on any of the robberies, please call the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task force at 303-629-7171.  There is a $2,000 reward available from Crime Stoppers for information on any of the recent crimes.

    Not Enough Toys

Toys for Tots, an organization run by the Marines since 1991 that delivers new toys to thousands of needy children nationally and in the Colorado area, is running very low on donations this year. Toys for Tots received nearly 70,000 requests from struggling families this season, a higher number than usual; but because of a lack of donations it is estimated that nearly 50,000 of those requests will go unfilled, unless there’s a ton of donations going into the organization in the next couple of days.

Cell Phone Law Effective December 1st

Come tuesday, house bill 1094 comes into affect, which prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a cell phone while the vehicle is in motion.  It also puts into place some restrictions for those over 18, permitting them from texting while driving; but they can still talk on their phones.  Under the new law, texting while driving will be a primary offense, meaning that police can ticket and pull over drivers based on that infringement alone.  The fine for texting while driving is currently set at $50 and a class A traffic infraction.
