Not Enough Toys

Toys for Tots, an organization run by the Marines since 1991 that delivers new toys to thousands of needy children nationally and in the Colorado area, is running very low on donations this year. Toys for Tots received nearly 70,000 requests from struggling families this season, a higher number than usual; but because of a lack of donations it is estimated that nearly 50,000 of those requests will go unfilled, unless there’s a ton of donations going into the organization in the next couple of days. Cpl. Catherine Hild with Toys for Tots announced; “Right now we have probably four to five thousand toys in our warehouse versus usually (at this time) we have about 40,000,” adding “It’s been that bad of a year.”

While small donations do come in every day, it’s still not enough.  The root cause of the lack of donations this year has yet to be discovered, what’s important now is donating to this wonderful cause. These families are counting on the Colorado community to pull through. The organization has extended the deadline for delivery of toys from December 16th to the 23rd.
